Marty Adams, WLU class of 1975, served as chairman, president, and chief executive officer of Sky Financial Group. A native of Jefferson County, Ohio, Adams began his banking career in 1977 at The Citizens Banking Company in Salineville, Ohio, as the main office manager and he ultimately became the president and CEO of the bank and its parent company, Citizens Bancshares, in 1987. In 1998, Citizens Bancshares, Inc., was renamed Sky Financial Group, Inc. Adams was named president, chief operating officer, and director of the Sky Financial Group board. Prior to its acquisition by Huntington Bancshares in 2006, Sky had over 290 financial centers and more than 4,300 employees throughout its five-state footprint.
In addition to his involvement with a variety of community service groups, Adams is very involved with his alma mater through multi-year membership in the President’s Circle and serves as its co-chair. He also is an active member of the board of directors of the West Liberty University Foundation. He has shared his business experiences and keys to success with WLU School of Business Administration students as a lecture series speaker. Adams resides in Naples, Florida, with his wife, Patti ’76
