BACKGROUND
Stella Caravas-Misoyianis was born in Weirton, WV on April 15, 1929, the only child of Irene Kontokosta Caravas and Gust Caravas. Her mother died in 1935 and her father died in 1970.
Stella attended Weirton schools and graduated from Weir High School in 1947. She attended West Liberty State College until 1949. With three-year certificate, she began teaching 4th, 5th, and 6th grades at Weirton Elementary School. She graduated from West Liberty State College in 1953. She transferred to Steubenville, Ohio Public School System in 1953 and taught there until 1979 giving her a total of 30 years of service. She taught at Grant, Roosevelt, Wells and Lincoln Schools in Steubenville. She was active in all the professional organizations, i.e. S.E.A., O.E.A. & N.E.A. A member of Delta Kappa Gamma and the Weirton Women’s Club.
On June 21, 1953, Stella married Charles K. Misoyianis. They have no children.
Mrs. Misoyianis attended the All Saint Greek Orthodox Church in Weirton where she served on the board for 10 years. She was an active member of the Greek Ladies Philotchos Society and past president. She was also a member of the All Saints Choir and past president and was a charter member of the Daughters of Penelope and founder of the All Saints Seniors Club in Weirton.
She and Charles were active members of Holy Trinity Orthodox Church in Clearwater, FL, St. Stefanos Orthodox Church in St. Petersburg, FL and St. Raphael, Nicholas and Irene in Palm Harbor, FL.
Her favorite pastime was walking. Her famous quote was, “All I want to do is eat, sleep and walk” in that order.
Stella passed away on September, 13, 2018 at the age of 93.
