Marty and Patti Adams Make Transformational $250,000 Gift to Support West Liberty University Students
WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. — The West Liberty University Foundation proudly announces a generous $250,000 commitment from alumni Marty and Patti Adams to support student scholarships and expand internship opportunities for Hilltoppers.
The Adamses’ gift will create a meaningful impact on WLU students by investing in both academic access and career readiness. A portion of the gift, $150,000, will be directed toward the existing Marty and Patti Adams Scholarship, an endowed fund that supports four-year scholarships. The remainder of the gift will be used to support student internships, enabling students to gain valuable work experience with nonprofits and other employers who are not able to provide paid internships.
“This remarkable commitment from Marty and Patti Adams reflects their belief in the mission of West Liberty University and their desire to support future generations of students,” said Betsy Delk, Executive Director of the WLU Foundation. “Their investment not only helps students afford a WLU education but also ensures they gain valuable hands-on experience that prepares them for success after graduation.”
“Having funding to support unpaid internships is a win for our students and for the community,” said Dr. Tim Borchers, President. “With these internships, our students are gaining valuable skills and experiences while having a positive impact on the community.”
Marty and Patti Adams are proud graduates of West Liberty University and have remained deeply connected to the institution throughout their lives. Marty has served as a member of the WLU Foundation Board of Directors for more than 20 years. He was inducted into the WLU Alumni Wall of Honor in 2006 in recognition of his distinguished career in the field of banking and his service to the University. In 2023, the Adamses were presented with the WLU Foundation’s Impact of Philanthropy Award, recognizing their outstanding contributions to WLU.
Together, Marty and Patti have been champions of education, mentorship, and community engagement. Their latest commitment underscores their belief in the power of education to change lives and strengthen communities.
