Amy Northwood Hamilton Endowed Nursing Scholarship

BACKGROUND

In 2024, this scholarship was endowed by the Honorable David B. McKinley and Mary McKinley in memory of his grandmother Amy Northwood Hamilton who served as the Resident Director in Shaw Hall at West Liberty State College for over 10 years during the administration of Dr. Paul N. Elbin. She received her certification to be a housemother from Purdue University. Amy loved her work at West Liberty and particularly enjoyed connecting with students. Following her mandatory retirement from WLSC at the age of 65, Amy went on to serve as a dormitory mother at both Bethany and Wheeling Colleges.

Mary McKinley served as a critical care nurse in the Ohio Valley for over 45 years. She obtained her nursing diploma from Ohio Valley General Hospital, her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Wheeling College and her Master of Science in Nursing from West Virginia University. Mary served as President of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses from 1998 to 1999 and remains active in the organization. Mary has been published in nursing and authored Acute and Critical Care Clinical Nurse Specialist-Synergy for Best Practice.
