BACKGROUND
In 2022, Jessica (Barr) and Kenith Britt decided to establish a new endowed scholarship fund to assist future WLU Education majors. Jessica, originally from Moundsville, WV graduated from West Liberty in 2003 with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education. Kenith graduated from West Liberty in 2002 also with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and a minor in Mathematics.
They both loved theatre and participated in Hilltop Players productions. In fact, they met in Kelly Theatre and married in July of 2003. A key moment in their lives together was when Ken, inspired by Jessica’s faith, joined the Catholic Church. Since then, they have devoted their entire career to Catholic education where both served as teachers in Catholic schools.
In additon to teaching, Ken also worked in Catholic school administration as a principal and president of two different Catholic school systems. Ken received his Master of Arts in Leadership Studies from Marshall University and later, he earned his Doctor of Philosophy in Leadership from The Catholic University of America.
In 2013, Ken moved into higher education when he joined Marian University in Indianapolis, IN where he serves as the Senior Vice President for Strategic Growth and Innovation. Ken and Jessica reside in Indianapolis and have four children whom Jessica homeschools.
They are firm believers that we are called to give back, which is part of the inspiration for this scholarship fund. West Liberty was a pivotal moment for both of them and shaped Ken, who was a first-generation college student. Jessica and Ken took full advantage of the opportunities available at WLU and got involved with everything they could while on campus. They are grateful for the opportunities that WLU gave them and want future Hilltoppers to benefit in this same great education.
