George L Grim, Jr was a graduate of West Liberty College, now West Liberty University. He grew up in Beech Bottom, West Virginia and, like most of the families there at the time, his father worked at the mill. George earned top grades in school and then worked his way through college to eventually be hired by IBM in the early 1960’s. He excelled at his job as a Systems Engineer and retired with the highest title the job offered, Consulting Systems Engineer. He credits much of his success to the education he received at West Liberty.
About a year before his passing he said that he regretted not starting a scholarship to help underprivileged students in the Ohio Valley get into West Liberty University. This fund is endowed in his and his wife Dolly’s honor, who was also a resident of Beech Bottom. George was also very active in community service as a member of the Boy Scouts of America, in which he earned the Eagle Scout badge, the Kiwanis Club, the Junior Fair Board of Canfield, Ohio, Junior Achievement, and Boardman (Ohio) Park Foundation, among others.
