Originally established in 1982 with a bequest from Max L. Horne, the Horne Family Honors Scholarship Endowment provides scholarships for students from Wheeling Park High School who are accepted into West Liberty Honors Academy with a business major. This scholarship is also available to students who have graduated from Wheeling Park High School, have attended another school of higher education and have transferred into the honors academy with a business major at West Liberty
.
Fred and Audrey Horne, who value education, hard work and community involvement, have established this scholarship in memory of Max L. and Jean G. Horne, the parents of Fred.
Requirements
- The purpose of this fund is to provide four-year scholarships to incoming freshman who are graduated of Wheeling Park High School and are accepted into the WLU Honors Academy with a major in Business Administration OR
- Students who have graduated from Wheeling Park High School who have transferred into the Honors Academy with a major in Business Administration at WLU.
- Every four year, one incoming freshman OR transfer student will receive a Horne Family Honors Scholarship in the amount of $1,500 to be paid at a rate of $750 per semester for a maximum of four years (8 semesters).
- Criteria for selection shall be the cumulative high school grade point average and aptitude test scores and must be accepted into the WLU Honors Academy.
Maintain Eligibility
- Students must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or above
- Continue as a member of the Honors Academy
- Maintain a full-time student status
Applications are not accepted for this scholarship.
The criteria above, designated by the scholarship donor, denote the characteristics of those College of Business students who may be eligible for this scholarship.
All students who meet these criteria are evaluated as potential candidates for the scholarship. The awardee is notified by the Financial Aid office if they have been selected as the recipient.
