The Louis A. Brescel, Jr., Endowed Scholarship was established by Helen M. Herzler to honor the memory of her son Louis A. Brescel, Jr. Brescel graduated from West Liberty State College in 1961 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in business administration and was a member of Delta Sigma Pi. He had been employed as a laboratory analyst by Mobay Chemical Company, Wheeling Steel Corporation, Continental Accessories, and as an international sales manager with the Harter Corporation.
He traveled extensively during his tenure at Harter Corp.- in the U.K., Germany, Switzerland, Saudi Arabia, New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Greece, Thailand, Kuwait, Daharan, the majority of the United States, and Seoul, Korea. Brescel dearly loved the water and the sky, as he was a commercial pilot, flight and ground instructor, SMEL Instruments, skiing, snorkeling, scuba diving, and a water safety instructor. He also held a Black Belt and was an instructor in Karate.
One four-year scholarship in the amount of $1,000 will be awarded to one incoming freshman every four years.
Requirements
- Eligible applicants must be an incoming freshman that meets the eligibility requirements at West Liberty University and qualifies for financial aid.
Maintaining Eligibility
- Remain enrolled on a full-time basis while maintaining a strong work ethic as demonstrated by work on a family farm or business, other extensive involvement with family commitments, or employment
