Maria Cigalle-Sontag Scholarship

Peter Sontag, a 1969 West Liberty graduate, established this scholarship in memory of his mother Maria Cigalle-Sonta, who passed away in 1995. Peter was the Chief Executive Officer of the Crown Marketing Group, and he was previously the chairman and CEO of USTravel, which he co-founded in 1986 and sold in 1994. Peter is originally from Austria, and he also holds and honorary doctorate of law from West Liberty.

Either one $500 scholarship will be awarded in increments of $250 per semester of the recipients freshman year or two $250 scholarships will be awarded during the first semester of the recipients freshman year. 

Requirements

• Applicants must be an incoming freshman or transfer student
• Major in Health & Physical Education or Exercise Physiology
• Full-time female student
• Cumulative GPA 3.0 or higher and a minimum ACT score of 20
• Preference given to students with financial need or in recognition of academic excellence
• Students must sign an acknowledgment/acceptance letter

Maintaining Eligibility

• Maintain a 3.0 GPA
• Remain a Heath & Physical Education or Exercise Physiology major
• Be enrolled on a full-time basis
