Professor Charles B. Davis Jr. Memorial Scholarship was established in 2015 by the Board of Directors of the Panhandle Farmers Mutual Insurance Company to honor former member Charles B. Davis. Davis served as a member of the Board of Directors for the Panhandle Farmers Mutual Insurance Company located in Moundsville, WV, for over 31 years. During those years, he played a major role in the ongoing progress of the company. His insight and willingness to explore new direction with major advancements in technology was never far from his thought process. Charles Davis was a major force in the growth of Panhandle Farmers Mutual, one of only twelve farm mutual insurance companies domiciled in West Virginia.
The company was formed in 1898 and has been insuring property for West Virginia residents since that time. Charles was raised on a dairy farm with his great-grandfather, grandfather and family. He graduated from New Cumberland High School in 1952, and graduated from West Liberty State College in 1957. He also graduated from Antioch College which he attended on a government program with an emphasis in physics. He took classes at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY. His graduate classes were completed at West Virginia University and Pitt University. He was a 33rd Degree Mason and a 50 year member of Masonic Lodge #22 in New Cumberland, a member and former officer with the Scottish Rite and Osiris Shrine and a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. Professor Davis retired after serving 35 years as a Physics teacher at West Liberty University.
One rising sophomore and junior finance majors will each be awarded with $1500.00 scholarship ($750.00 per semester).
Requirements
- Rising Junior – Will be awarded to the highest GPA at the end of the Fall semester of all student finance majors in their third year on the Gary E. West College
- To maintain the award, the student must remain enrolled full time within the Gary E. West College of Business and have a 3.0 GPA
- Rising Sophomore – Will be awarded to the highest GPA at the end of the Fall semester of all finance majors in their second year in the Gary E. West College of Business.
- To the maintain the award the student must remain enrolled full-time within the Gary E. West College of Business and have a 3.0 GPA
Maintain Eligibility
- The student will remain eligible for this scholarship for their senior year if they continue to meet eligibility requirments.
