This fund was established as a result of a bequest made by Sara H. Schnitzler, who passed away in January 1994. Mrs. Schnitzler taught elementary school for 38 years in Ohio County schools. Mrs. Schnitzler was born in North Wheeling in 1908 and received a certificate from West Liberty Normal School in 1933. She subsequently earned a degree from West Virginia University. According to friends and relatives, Mrs. Schnitzler provided scholarships anonymously during her lifetime to West Liberty State College students.
Two incoming freshman will receive a Schnitzler/Hartenstein scholarship in the amount of $8,000 to be paid at a rate of $1,000 per semester for a maximum of four years.
Requirements
- Eligible applicants must be an incoming freshman.
- Recipients will be chosen by the Office of Admissions based on merit.
- Criteria for selection will be based on cumulative high school grade point average and aptitude test scores.
