Joseph A. Bartell, Ph.D., served at West Liberty State College from 1933-1971 in many capacities, including coach, athletic director, professor, dean of men and dean of students. He had a positive impact on the lives of students, faculty and staff. This scholarship is a tribute to his dedication to the College and to his legacy of high goals in athletics and academic achievements.
Requirements
The interest income from donations to this endowment will be used to provide an annual $500 scholarship to one female student athlete and an annual $500 scholarship to one male student athlete, across all sports as much as possible.
Eligibility criteria:
- award recipient must be in good academic standing at West Liberty
- student-athlete must be nominated as a sophomore or junior to receive the award as a junior or senior
- participation in extra-curricular activities
- at least one year of varsity athletic competition at West Liberty
Applications are not accepted for this scholarship.
The criteria above, designated by the scholarship donor, denote the characteristics of those student-athletes who may be eligible for this scholarship.
All students who meet these criteria are evaluated as potential candidates for the scholarship. The awardee is notified by the Financial Aid office if they have been selected as the recipient.
