To honor the memory of Dr. Edward J. Joseph, this scholarship is to be awarded annually during the Spring Semester to a student who is a resident of West Virginia and enrolled in the first year of the professional Dental Hygiene program. The recipient of this award is to be determined by his or her first-year classmates because of being identified as being the most helpful, encouraging and inspiring member of the class.
The recipient shall receive a scholarship in the amount of $3,000 to be applied to tuition, fee and/or books. The award shall be split equally between the fall and spring academic year following the announcement of the award.
- The scholarship is to be awarded to a resident of West Virginia
- The recipient shall receive a scholarship in the amount of $3,000
- The Program Director will identify the students eligible for the scholarship and present the criteria for selection to members of the First-Year Class.
- Each member of the class may nominate one student from among those eligible by ballot. Students may not vote for themselves.
- The names of the three students receiving the greatest number of nominations will be placed on a ballot. Each member of the class will vote for one scholarship recipient.
- If the recipient has additional scholarships, the award is not to exceed the total amount of college tuition and fees for the current academic year.
- If the recipient has additional scholarships making their total amount of financial assistance greater than the annual College tuition and fees, the award will go to the second-place student.
- If the second-place student has additional scholarships making their total amount of financial assistance greater than the annual college tuition and fees, the award will go to the third-place student.
- If the third-place student is not eligible to receive the award due to value of additional financial assistance, the scholarship will not be awarded for the current academic year.
