The Forrest L. Mellott Memorial Football Scholarships was established by Virginia T. Mellott in 1992 in loving memory of her late husband, Forrest. They are both alumni of West Liberty graduating in 1942 and 1943. Forrest played football while at West Liberty and Virginia feels that the opportunity to play football is the main reason Forrest pursued an education beyond high school. He was the only person in his family to attain a college degree. Both Forrest and Virginia were lifelong educators and value a quality education. It is Virginia’s intention through this scholarship to help a student who wants to play football at West Liberty University, is in good academic standing, will work hard while attending West Liberty, and needs financial aid.
Income from this fund will be used to provide a four-years scholarship to one incoming student who is recruited to play on the intercollegiate football team.
The scholarship will be awarded at a rate of 50% of the cost of tuition, room and board per year for a period of up to four years and will be distributed evenly per semester.
