Nick Baker’s family, friends and colleagues established this scholarship in 2007 to recognize his service to West Liberty University. Baker was an Associate Professor at West Liberty University for 36 years, during which he served as the chair of the Department of Natural Sciences and Mathematics.He also served as the president of the West Virginia Counsel of Teachers of Mathematics and was a member of the Ohio County Board of Education from 1994 to 2006. Baker won the Counsel’s Distinguished Service Award in 1994, and he was awarded Teacher of the Year of Mathematics at the college level in 2007.
This scholarship was originally to benefit students majoring in Mathematics. However, since the Mathematics major was eliminated in 2016, the scholarship will now benefit students majoring in Mathematics Education.
Eligible applicants must be a full time sophomore or junior majoring in Mathematics. Applicants must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0.
