BACKGROUND
Pamela Beltz Lyons was a Wheeling, WV native and 1981 graduate of West Liberty University, with a Bachlelor’s Degree in Biology. As a child, Pam’s family spent weekends at West Virginia State Parks, where a love of nature developed. Her late mother, Shirley Dague Betz (WLU Class of 1949), nurtured care and respect for nature in many ways, including leading and helping her daughters’ Girl Scout troops.
Upon graduation from WLU, Pam was employed as the Naturalist at Cacapon State Park in the eastern panhandle of West Virginia and later as a hazardous wastewater inspector for the State of West Virginia, in the northern panhandle. Pam passed away November 26, 1998, at the age of 39. She is currently survived by her husband, Brent G. Lyons (Joy) of Moundsville, her daughter Abigayle G. Lyons of Moundsville, her sister Gayle B. Neldon, WLU Class of 1977 (Gary) of Morgantown, her niece Kristin R. Neldon of Morgantown, and nephew Andrew J. Neldon of Denver, CO.
This scholarship was created by one of Pam’s college friends and contributed to by her family, with the intention of providing financial support to WLU students pursuing a degree in Biology, in memory of Pam’s love of the outdoors and service to the State of West Virginia.
