This fund is established by Alfred R. de Jaager to provide scholarships to choral students of West Liberty State College.
Alfred R. de Jaager served as the Director of Choral Activities at West Liberty State College starting in 1966. In the past, he has served as Chairman of the Department of Music, Chairman of the Department of Art, and served as Interim Chairman of the Department of Arts and Communications.
Mr. de Jaager holds degrees from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and West Virginia University. He also earned the American Guild of Organists’ Choir Master Certificate. He is a Life Member of the American Choral Directors Association, having served several terms as State President for West Virginia and thirteen years as state newsletter editor. In 2002 he received the American Choral Directors Association Award for Excellence.
Requirements
- The income from donations to the endowment will be used to provide four-year music scholarships to one or more incoming freshman students every four years.
- Eligible students must be entering into a music related major with a high school cumulative GPA of 3.0 and a score of 20 on the ACT or 950 on the SAT. Students must pass WLU music program audition requirements to apply. Financial aid is not mandatory but will be considered. A FAFSA form will be required to be considered for financial need.
Maintain Eligibility
- Recipients must maintain a 2.5 grade point average or above.
- Remain a music-related major and be enrolled on a full-time basis.
- They also must continue to participate as a performer in those musical organizations assigned in the scholarship award letter.
